More than 400 Sacramento-area companies with over $3.5 billion in defense contracts could lose an average of 9.4 percent of that business next year under automatic budget cuts that will take effect if Congress doesn’t reach a new deficit-reduction deal.

Click through the slideshow to see the top 25 defense contractors in the four-county Sacramento region — and how much money they could lose if the cut is applied across the board.

The contract totals were compiled by the Center for Security Policy, a pro-defense think tank in Washington. The cuts, known as “sequestration,” are a provision of the last federal budget deal that calls for automatic spending cuts unless Congress reaches a deal on the deficit.

More information is available from the Center for Security Policy website.
